A Day at Venice Carnivale

Venice is so pretty and the concept of the city is so cool! It's made up of a bunch of tiny "islands," so the whole city is connected by bridges and there are no cars or anything like that. To get around people either just walk or they take their boat. It was so weird trying to think about life like that.

We went during the first week of Carnivale (that big celebration you know of because that's the one everyone wears the big, extravagant masks) and it was absolutely mobbed. We got to see the parade down the river and it was filled with gondolas that people turned into cool/ weird floats. But it was so packed we lasted about 5 minutes at the parade then we went to explore the rest of the city. We got to take a gondola ride later in the day, so that was pretty cool! It was actually kind of freaky because you are so low to the water and for part of the ride we were in such a wavey part of the water where all of the other boats were cruising along. So, it was a little rocky at first, but once we got into the middle of the city, the water was so flat and calm. It was a really cool way to see the whole city!

It was just a quick day trip, so we didn't do much more than walk around the city and ride the gondola, but check out a few pictures from below!
